Everything You Need To Know About Nasya ~ An Ayurvedic Treatment Profile
Nasya is part of both Panchakarma (specialised, deep cleansing practices) & Dinacharya (daily routines) treatment in Ayurveda which have a profound effect on the mind and respiratory system.
Nasya treatment has the ability to bring our consciousness back to the present moment and cures absent-mindedness, often associated with Vata imbalances and also commonly for respiratory congestion or recurring migraine headaches. Nasya is beneficial for everyone - all constitutions, or Prakritis - and particularly useful for Vata and Kapha disorders.
When used as part of your daily routine (Dinacharya), the ancient texts of Ayurveda explain the application of Nasya can be used for stabilisation and clarity of all of the senses, especially the sense of sight, smell, hearing and taste.

Difficulty concentrating
Indecisiveness
Pain or discomfort at the back of the throat

Stimulates motor organs (in cases of stroke)

No nasya should be given or self-administered in the Rainy Season (mid Jan til mid March) or during the Summer heat and should not be administered immediately after - food, bath, sex, alcohol and during pregnancy and menstruation (1-3 days).
“Every year one should use anu taila through snuff, thrice a day in Early Rains, Autumn and Spring when the sky is free from clouds. One who practices the snuffing as prescribed and in time, his vision, smell and hearing are not affected, his hairs or beard and mustache do not become white or grey, hairs do not fall rather they grow abundantly. Stiffness in back neck, headache, facial paralysis, lockjaw, chronic rhinitis, migraine and head tremors are alleviated. Veins, joints, ligaments and tendons of skill attain greater strength on saturation through snuffing. Face becomes cheerful and well-developed, voice melodious, stable and grave. Freedom from defects and increased strength are bestowed upon all sense-organs. He is not attacked suddenly by disorders of pars above the clavicle and even in advanced years, old age does not find strength in his best organ (head).”
